The Torres Toros won the last time they faced the McLane Highlanders, and things went their way on Thursday too. Torres took down McLane 43-28. Given Torres' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 360th, while McLane is ranked 828th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Torres was led to victory by J'Lynn Mitchell and Sabrina Cerrillo. Mitchell dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, while Cerrillo scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The match was Mitchell's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Perez, who scored four points along with seven steals.
Torres is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for McLane, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Torres won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Bakersfield Christian at 6:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Hopefully Bakersfield Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Thursday. McLane will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Riverdale at 4:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Riverdale and three for McLane.
