Maxwell has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Sutherland Sailors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Friday, Maxwell came up short against the Wildcats and fell 44-34. Maxwell has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their game on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Sutherland fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 42-28 victory over Garden County on Tuesday. Sutherland pushed the score to 38-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Sutherland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mahala Vasquez led the charge by scoring 13 points along with three steals. Vasquez has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Glory Naughtin was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Maxwell has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Sutherland, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-12 record this season.
Maxwell and the Sailors were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but the Wildcats came up empty-handed after a 36-35 loss. Can Maxwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
