Change is coming to the MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Following the lead of the approach on the boys' side, teams eligible for the MaxPreps Top 25 will be limited to those who compete for a state title as part of a recognized governing body. Post-graduate and non-scholastic programs will not be considered for inclusion.
But expect there to be plenty of familiar names near the top of the preseason rankings in November. We take a crack at what that may look like today with a way-too-early MaxPreps Top 25 for 2024-25.
At the top of the list is reigning national champion
Etiwanda (Calif.). The Eagles ascended to the No. 1 spot last season after winning their second straight state title, beating No. 2
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) for the second consecutive year in the championship game. Head coach Stan Delus loses MaxPreps All-American Kennedy Smith to graduation and USC but point guard
Aliyahna Morris and post
Grace Knox will power the three-peat bid. The expected addition of Class of 2028 phenom Sydney Douglas, a 6-foot-6 post player, would be a boost for the Inland Empire power.
Just over half of the way-too-early MaxPreps Top 25 (13 teams) were ranked at the end of the season.
