The Stockdale Mustangs will square off against the Clovis Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stockdale is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Stockdale saw some tournament action on Monday. They blew past Fresno 8-1. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Stockdale got a great performance from Andres Ochoa as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Ochoa a new career-high.
At the plate, Brayden Gutierrez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlie Ryder, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Clovis fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Bradshaw Christian on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 8-5 to the Pride.
Peyton Barsotti was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Nick Caballero was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple.
Clovis dropped their record down to 6-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Stockdale, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Stockdale hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Clovis struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Stockdale was able to grind out a solid victory over Clovis in their previous meeting back in March, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
