Villa Park is 2-8 against Foothill since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Villa Park Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Foothill Knights at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Villa Park has four straight victories, Foothill has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Villa Park's game was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They secured a 49-45 W over Canyon.
Foothill suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Esperanza on the road and fell 69-25. While losing is never fun, Foothill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 698th, while Esperanza is ranked 33rd).
Despite the loss, Foothill saw an underclassman step up: Elize McAveney scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Villa Park is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. As for Foothill, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.
Villa Park was able to grind out a solid victory over Foothill in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 47-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Villa Park since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
