The Mount Miguel Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by Granite Hills 75-31. While losing is never fun, Mount Miguel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1201st, while Granite Hills is ranked 560th).
Despite the loss, Mount Miguel still got an impressive performance from Jaylene Hughes, who scored 31 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 100% of Mount Miguel's points, marking the 24th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Kerstena Tomika was her usual excellent self, scoring 32 points for Granite Hills. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tomika has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Fry, who scored 13 points.
Mount Miguel has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-23 record this season. As for Granite Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season.
Mount Miguel will be playing at home against Helix at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Helix focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday. As for Granite Hills, they will head out on the road to square off against Grossmont at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Grossmont is coming into the matchup with three straight wins at home, meaning Granite Hills will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
