Hueneme and Channel Islands are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
If Hueneme beats Channel Islands with eight runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Vikings didn't even let Thacher on the board on Saturday, marking the Vikings' second-straight 8-0 shutout. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

George Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over seven innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hueneme is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Joseph Pena was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aureliano Perez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Channel Islands entered their tilt with Malibu on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Sharks with a sharp 13-2 win.
Like Hueneme, Channel Islands also got a great game from a two-way player: Nolan Salinas. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, Salinas posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Jacob Sanchez was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Isaiah Osuna was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
Channel Islands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Hueneme has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Channel Islands, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Hueneme beat Channel Islands 6-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
