Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is a perfect 4-0 against Wauneta-Palisade since October of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will welcome the Broncos at 2:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Medicine Valley to the tune of 61-28 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
It was another big night for Jordan Scoville, who rushed for 118 yards and three scores on only nine carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one touchdown. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss). Chance Daake was another key player, throwing for 82 yards and a pair of TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.
Meanwhile, Wauneta-Palisade really took it to Paxton for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-20 win. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Tigers are ranked 103rd) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller better keep an eye on Kreyton Wiese. He was instrumental in Wauneta-Palisade's win, rushing for 131 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also catching one score.
Wauneta-Palisade didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Wyatt Hilbert led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.
Wauneta-Palisade's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wauneta-Palisade struggles in that department as they've been averaging 286.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller took their victory against Wauneta-Palisade when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 54-30 score. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wiese, who rushed for 174 yards and three TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Mustangs still be able to contain Wiese? There's only one way to find out.
