The Dover-Eyota Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the St. Charles Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Dover-Eyota is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Dover-Eyota managed to slip by Lewiston-Altura the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles lost 10-4 to the Cardinals on Thursday. It was the first time this season that the Eagles let down their fans at home.
Kellen Andring was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Andring wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joel Skrukrud, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Charles got the win against Fillmore Central/Lanesboro on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-4. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Brayden Mueller looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Bryndon Koeppel was excellent, going 1-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Kozak, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
St. Charles kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Dover-Eyota suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 4-4. As for St. Charles, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Dover-Eyota's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Charles, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Dover-Eyota continue to outrun the ball?
Dover-Eyota couldn't quite finish off St. Charles in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
