The Orange Vista Coyotes extended their postseason success on Friday against the San Jacinto Tigers. They claimed a resounding 49-17 win over the Tigers on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Orange Vista who now have eight in a row.
Orange Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khalil Abdul-aziz, who threw for 240 yards and five touchdowns on only 17 passes. Orange Vista also got a significant boost from Sire Gaines, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 168 yards.
San Jacinto's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Malachi Brown, who rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown. Brown was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Dillon Gresham was another key contributor, gaining 83 total yards and a touchdown.
Orange Vista's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Heritage and 3-7 JW North (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.4% over those games). As for San Jacinto, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5.
Orange Vista will take on Western at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Western's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last 11 games. San Jacinto does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
