If the Eisenhower Eagles were riding high off their 56-23 takedown of the Grand Terrace Titans back in November, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Eisenhower took a 44-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fontana on Thursday. Eisenhower was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fontana apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the defeat, Eisenhower saw an underclassman step up: Leyla Payan scored 12 points. Payan scored a full 33.3% of Eisenhower's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camiya Horton, who scored 9 points.
Destiney Rentie was on fire for Fontana: she dropped a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Rentie has scored at least 25% of Fontana's points. Akami Garrett was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Eisenhower's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Fontana, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
Eisenhower is on the road again on Monday and play against Village Christian at 6:30 p.m. on December 11th. Village Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Eisenhower in California (Village Christian is ranked 24th, while Eisenhower is ranked 312th). As for Fontana, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Grand Terrace at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Terrace will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
