Chicago Hope Academy will head out on the road to face off against the Taft Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chicago Hope Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
While Chicago Hope Academy's win against St. Edward wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Chicago Hope Academy skirted past St. Edward 8-6. Chicago Hope Academy hasn't had any issues with St. Edward recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Lukas Rivera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Cesar Marquez was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Zyus Martinez also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Chicago Hope Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Saturday. Taft blew past Jones 10-3. Taft's win was all the more impressive since Jones was averaging only 4.1 runs allowed on the season.
Like Chicago Hope Academy, Taft also got a great game from a two-way player: Ethan Acosta. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Acosta also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Taft is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-12 otherwise. Acosta was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Giuseppe Lampignano was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Taft's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Andrew Korolis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Chicago Hope Academy's record now sits at 16-12. As for Taft, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chicago Hope Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Taft struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
