Chavez extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-22 in the process. They came up short against the Weston Ranch Cougars, falling 12-6. If the Titans were looking for revenge after losing 14-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Joesph Baltazar was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Jordan Cordova made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
As for Weston Ranch, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
Like Chavez, Weston Ranch also got a great game from a two-way player: Nico Orona. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Orona has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Weston Ranch is 2-1 when Orona posts two or more stolen bases, but 9-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Paris, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anthony Arias, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
While Chavez had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
