After three games on the road, Kennedy is heading back home. They will take on the Shafter Generals at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Kennedy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1050th, while the Generals are ranked 247th).
Last Thursday, Kennedy suffered a rough 64-42 loss at the hands of the Cougars.
Kennedy might have lost, but man, Valeria Payan-Medina was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Payan-Medina is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleen Maes, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, Shafter gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Delano 82-9 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Shafter who now have 13 in a row.
Kennedy dropped their record down to 9-16 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.4 points per game. As for Shafter, their victory bumped their record up to 21-5.
Kennedy was dealt a bruising 56-28 loss at the hands of the Generals in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Shafter's Sydnee Macias, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Now that Kennedy knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
