Mt. Vernon and Triad are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Rams will be playing at home against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Mt. Vernon took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Crystal Lake Central as they made off with an 11-1 win. With that victory, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Cale Maurer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Maurer was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.
In other batting news, Nolan Mast was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Ty Pierce, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mt. Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Triad put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Morris 10-1. Fans of the Knights have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Triad's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
