Even though the Pike Central Chargers scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, the Mt. Vernon Wildcats still came out on top. Mt. Vernon narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chargers 61-58. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mt. Vernon.
Nicot Burnett continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds. Nash Hostetter was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Pike Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Julian Gish. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gish has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chase Ridao, who scored eight points along with seven assists and three steals.
Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Pike Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon and the Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Princeton will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. As for Pike Central, they will head out on the road to face off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Posey and the Chargers are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
