Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Extends Winning Streak to Three

St. Mary entered their tilt with Stuart on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 67-51 win over the Stuart Broncos. The Cardinals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Broncos, too.

St. Mary's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Logan Brabec, who went 8 for 20 on his way to 22 points and five steals. That's the most steals Brabec has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ben Barlow, who went 9 of 19 en route to 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Several Broncos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Drew Schmaderer, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 17 points and eight boards. Schmaderer continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Hunter Tubbs was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.

St. Mary's is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Stuart, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-4.

St. Mary's didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 72-30 victory against North Central on the 1st. Stuart has also already played their next game, a 70-32 win against Niobrara/Verdigre on the 1st.
