Softball Recap: Mesa Ridge Wins Going Away Against Palmer

Mesa Ridge won the last time they faced Palmer and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Grizzlies blew past the Terrors 17-2. Considering the Grizzlies have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaitlyn Fielder made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Bolander, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since September 5th. The team also got some help courtesy of Elexiyah Montoya, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Mesa Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Mesa Ridge and bumps their season record up to 9-7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Palmer, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Coming up, Mesa Ridge will square off against Sierra at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stallions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.91 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Palmer, they will take on Canon City at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Terrors will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
