It was a good run, but the Stone Ridge Christian Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They received a tough blow as they fell 57-40 to Venture Academy. Stone Ridge Christian has not had much luck with Venture Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Stone Ridge Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cali Cole, who scored 18 points. Tailynn Dungy was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Venture Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jz Lawrence, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 steals. Lawrence is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimora Crawford, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Stone Ridge Christian's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8. As for Venture Academy, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9.
Stone Ridge Christian is on the road again on Thursday and plays Sacramento Waldorf at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Sacramento Waldorf's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so Stone Ridge Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Venture Academy, they will take on Dixon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Dixon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Venture Academy likes a good challenge.
