Pittsburg is on an 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Granada is on a 21-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. Pittsburg will host Granada at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Pittsburg 1.5, Granada 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Pittsburg had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt American Canyon on Friday. Pittsburg was the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over American Canyon. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Ty Thompson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Marc Torres looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Devin Simonton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Diego Deluna, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Granada never let their opponents score on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over California. The win continues a trend for the Matadors in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won four in a row.
Alex Piscotty tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched.
Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Granada, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Pittsburg couldn't quite get it done against Granada when the teams last played back in February of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can Pittsburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
