The Christian Patriots will be taking part in a tournament against the Santana Sultans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
While Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over Grossmont on Wednesday.
Logan Major made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xander Molina, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Bryce Vowles, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-1.
Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grossmont only posted a batting average of .130.
Meanwhile, Santana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of University City.
Santana also got a good showing from Christian Levesque, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Santana saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Landers, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Michael Morrison also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Christian pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Santana, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Santana's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. It's a different story for Santana, though, as they've only averaged .263. Will they be able to contain Christian's hitters?
Christian suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Santana in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
