Having just played yesterday, the Mullen Broncos will get right back to it and host the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on January 19th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Thursday, Mullen came up short against Arthur County and fell 31-24.
Despite the defeat, Mullen saw an underclassman step up: Hayley Donohoe scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Gordon-Rushville also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Alliance by a score of 46-35. It was the first time this season that Gordon-Rushville let down their fans at home.
Defeat or not, Gordon-Rushville got some senior leadership from Haley Johnson and Mckinley Grover. Johnson scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Grover. scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That was a full 48.6% of Gordon-Rushville's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mullen now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Gordon-Rushville, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Mullen have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Gordon-Rushville, though, as they've been averaging only 31.9 rebounds per game. Given Mullen's sizeable advantage in that area, Gordon-Rushville will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mullen suffered a grim 57-35 defeat to Gordon-Rushville when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mullen was down 33-13.
