The third road contest was the charm for the Upper Merion Area Vikings, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Boyertown by a score of 58-45 on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Upper Merion Area's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while Boyertown is ranked 188th).
Jack Greaves and Trey Kern certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Greaves scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, while Kern scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Kern's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brant Rath, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
The victory got Upper Merion Area back to even at 4-4. As for Boyertown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Upper Merion Area will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Phoenixville at 6:45 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Boyertown will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Whitehall at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
