Torrey Pines and Sage Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Torrey Pines Falcons will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Sage Creek Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Torrey Pines' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Sage Creek's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Torrey Pines' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 9-0 margin over Santa Fe Christian. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Brody Martin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dolan Maher, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Cole, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
Sage Creek's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Elsinore on Tuesday. Sage Creek narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past La Costa Canyon 3-1.
Elijah Stephens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Stephens wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Jimenez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Sage Creek pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Torrey Pines, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Torrey Pines has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sage Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
