A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Langston Hughes is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with 11 losses in a row dating back to last season, Langston Hughes turned things around against Fayette County on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Tigers.

Rodney Weekes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Harry Gibson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Darien Whitfield was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Douglas County entered their tilt with Pebblebrook on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 19-13 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Langston Hughes, Douglas County also got a great game from a two-way player: James Anthony. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That hit marked the first that Anthony allowed this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Bemus, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and four RBI. He has become a key player for Douglas County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nayland Patton, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Langston Hughes' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Douglas County, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
