Two dominant signal callers in Kingston Jeffries and Chase Campbell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Eastwood Troopers will host the Frenship Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastwood will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Eastwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Montwood to the tune of 54-27 two weeks ago. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Troopers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Rams are ranked 766th).
Eastwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Ramirez, who rushed for 92 yards and one score on only nine carries. Ramirez's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another rusher making a difference was Nathanael Chavira, who rushed for 138 yards.
Eastwood didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Montwood to a completion percentage of just 48.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Alberto Mendiola and Matthew Yarbrough, who each logged two passes deflected. Eastwood wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 40%.

Eastwood's defense didn't let Damian Briano, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Montwood's QB won't forget Andrew Cintron anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Cintron has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 13 times he's played. Another thorn in Montwood's side was Zacary Adams, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles.
Meanwhile, Frenship suffered their biggest loss since August 28th on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 52-16 loss at the hands of San Angelo Central. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Although Frenship took the loss, they still got scores from Quaid Ferris and Braiden Dunkerson.
Frenship didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jackson Thomas. Frenship got some further help from Noah Lopez: he made 14 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Frenship's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Eastwood, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Eastwood has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.3 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Frenship, though, as they've been averaging only 57.9 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Eastwood was taken down by Frenship 87-58 when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can the Troopers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
