The Newbury Park Panthers were the 40-27 winner over the Thousand Oaks Lancers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Newbury Park was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 49-48 to Thousand Oaks. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Newbury Park came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Thousand Oaks is ranked 430th).
Despite the loss, Newbury Park still got an impressive performance from Kierabella Coletta-Todd, who scored 17 points along with four steals and two blocks. Coletta-Todd hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Kai Mekari was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thousand Oaks to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amanda Wang, who scored eight points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jaelah Brown, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Newbury Park and nudges their season record down to 20-3. As for Thousand Oaks, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will face off against Oaks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Thousand Oaks, they will head out on the road to square off against Calabasas at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Calabasas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
