This season hasn't been kind to the Girard Yellowjackets, who are still winless after their tenth game. They took a serious blow against Northwestern on Saturday, falling 52-24. While losing is never fun, Girard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 623rd, while Northwestern is ranked 123rd).
Northwestern found their leader in underclassman Makayla Presser-Palmer, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Presser-Palmer has scored at least a third of Northwestern's points. Chloe Yazembiak was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Girard dropped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.0 points per game. As for Northwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Girard will take on Union City at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northwestern, they will head out on the road to face off against Seneca at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Seneca is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
