Cherokee Trail is 9-1 against Chaparral since August of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars will square off against the Wolverines at 12:15 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Chaparral will be up against a hot Cherokee Trail squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. Everything went the Cougars' way against Arvada West on Friday as they made off with a 9-1 win. Considering the Cougars have won 16 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Cobb made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Cobb was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tayah Burton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Becker, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Cherokee Trail hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Chaparral came out on top against Lakewood on Friday by a score of 14-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Izzy Mayoros was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Freitas, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Cherokee Trail's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Chaparral, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cherokee Trail hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .395. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
