Basketball Recap: Griffin Garner Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat River Hill

Howard hadn't done well against River Hill recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Howard Lions were the clear victor by a 79-57 margin over the River Hill Hawks. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 74-63 win the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Howard to victory, but perhaps none more so than Griffin Garner, who went 10 of 20 on his way to 26 points and five rebounds. The game was Garner's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alex Reeb, who went 10 for 15 en route to 22 points and five boards.

Howard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

River Hill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Bishop, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 19 points and three steals. Bishop has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Mason Rooths was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Howard and bumps their season record up to 8-1. As for River Hill, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4.

Howard will be playing at home against Westminster at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. River Hill has already played their next match (against Glenelg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
