The Los Altos Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Milpitas Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Los Altos has four straight wins, Milpitas has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Los Altos is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over Half Moon Bay on Saturday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Gavin Moore was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Derek Eltherington, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Los Altos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Milpitas lost 13-4 to Santa Teresa on Monday.
Milpitas saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Ostrander, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double was Ostrander's first of the season. Isaiah Rodriguez was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Los Altos pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Milpitas, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Milpitas' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Los Altos has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Milpitas, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Los Altos' sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Los Altos took their victory against Milpitas in their previous meeting back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
