Nielsen, a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, started his junior campaign with a bang throwing for 576 yards on 31 of 37 passing with five touchdowns in a 57-24 win over North (Torrance). He followed that up with a 300-yard night in a 7-6 win over Peninsula (Rolling Hills Estates) and 186 yards on 11 of 18 passing and two scores in a 31-0 win over George Washington Prep (Los Angeles).
Brady Smigiel of
Newbury Park is the only other Golden State quarterback over 1,000 yards passing with 1,031, including a 496-yard effort last week in a 63-52 loss to St. Joseph (Santa Maria). The sophomore signal caller has already thrown for 17 touchdowns, seven in a season-opening wing over Golden Valley (Santa Clarita) and seven in last week's loss.
