Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Callaway

Callaway came tearing into Thursday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Rutland Hurricanes 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Lilah Monteith made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ryleigh Seymour and Savannah Rice did most of the damage at the plate: Seymour got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Rice went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Monroe Wiggins, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Callaway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Callaway's record is now 8-10. As for Rutland, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Callaway will welcome Troup County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Rutland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westside at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Seminoles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.6 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
