Denver North and Denver East are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2018, but likely not for long. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Angels at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Denver North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.
Denver North is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Denver South just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ravens.
Sophia Guerrero made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Denver East won against George Washington on Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Angels beat Rangeview by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 17-5. Considering the Angels have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Faris was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Reese Larson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Emmy Lang was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Denver East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are 6-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Denver East and bumps their season record up to 8-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Denver North, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 15-3.
Denver East's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Denver North has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Denver East, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Denver North's sizable advantage in that area, the Angels will need to find a way to close that gap.
Denver North took their victory against Denver East when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 16-2 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Angels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
