Pace Academy proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Westminster Wildcats 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Charles Smith tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Miles Mador was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one triple. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caden Austin, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Pace Academy's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Westminster, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pace Academy will venture away from home to square off against First Presbyterian Day at 2:00 p.m. on March 8th. Westminster will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on March 11th.
