The Porterville Panthers's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 41-14 win over Mt. Whitney. Given Porterville's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 386th, while Mt. Whitney is ranked 848th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Porterville found their leader in underclassman Ryleigh Schoonover, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Schoonover has scored at least a third of Porterville's points. Marissa Martin was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Porterville's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Mt. Whitney, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 11-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Porterville will stay at home for another game and welcome Redwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Mt. Whitney will take on Golden West at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Golden West is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
