The Union Area Scotties will be playing in front of their home fans against the Riverside Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Union Area has five straight victories, Riverside has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Union Area scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ellwood City 62-34 on the road. Union Area has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 24 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, Riverside ended up a good deal behind Wilmington on Wednesday and lost 56-42. While losing is never fun, Riverside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Wilmington is ranked 149th).
Union Area's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Riverside, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-9.
Everything came up roses for Union Area against Riverside when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 56-17 victory. With Union Area ahead 47-11 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
