The Moorpark Musketeers will challenge the Oaks Christian Lions at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Moorpark's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Oaks Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Moorpark was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hueneme on Monday. Everything went Moorpark's way against Hueneme as Moorpark made off with a 12-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Musketeers considering their one-run performance the game before.
Ronan O'Connell looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Chase Kresge was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. Ryan Woodford also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Moorpark always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Oaks Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Bishop Alemany on Monday and fell 5-4.
Oaks Christian also got a good showing from Connor Sahagun, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Quentin Young was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Moorpark's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs over those games. As for Oaks Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Moorpark hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oaks Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Moorpark might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Oaks Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Moorpark avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
