After flying high against the Freedom Area Bulldogs last Friday, the Neshannock Lancers came back down to earth. Neshannock fell 54-47 to Ellwood City on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Neshannock came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Ellwood City is ranked 312th).
It was another big night for Joseph Roth, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 17 rebounds for Ellwood City. Roth is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Nardone, who scored six points.
Neshannock's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3. As for Ellwood City, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Neshannock will be playing at home against Beaver Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ellwood City, they will head out on the road to square off against Mohawk Area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mohawk Area has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 479 points over their last seven matchups.
