Given Marshall's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Huntington Park is ranked 968th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Marshall to victory were Maryn Goodwin and Destiny Ihiaso. Goodwin scored 14 points, while Ihiaso scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The contest was Ihiaso's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jolynn Alibar, who scored 8 points.
Despite the loss, Huntington Park still got an impressive performance from Ingryd Hernandez, who scored 15 points. Hernandez scored a full 48.4% of Huntington Park's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Angelina Moreno was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Marshall now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Huntington Park, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Marshall is on the road again on Friday and play against Edgewood at 8:00 p.m. on December 1st. As for Huntington Park, they will take on Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
