Holyoke extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-9. They lost 17-9 to the Burlington Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-3 two weeks ago.
Sarah Schlachter made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Alexa Kinoshita was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
As for Burlington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. Considering they have won three games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Burlington's side, Paige Bessire made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit (and only one walk). Bessire was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in October of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Hays, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Weisshaar, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
While Holyoke had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
