The Cabrillo Conquistadores can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Santa Maria as Cabrillo made off with a 47-27 victory. Given Cabrillo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Santa Maria is ranked 462nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cabrillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Natalie McCune, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and two steals. Angeliyah Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Santa Maria's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nevaeh Madrigal, who scored five points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Reyes, who scored five points along with two steals.
Santa Maria struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Cabrillo's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. As for Santa Maria, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cabrillo will square off against Paso Robles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Santa Maria, they will head out on the road to face off against Mission College Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mission College Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
