DCP Alum Rock is 1-8 against Mountain View Academy since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The DCP Alum Rock Lobos will head out on the road to take on the Mountain View Academy Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
DCP Alum Rock proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 24) but on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past El Primero 30-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory DCP Alum Rock has posted yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead DCP Alum Rock to victory, but perhaps none more so than Estrella Sanchez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Sanchez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Andrea Munguia was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Mountain View Academy stacked a third blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 54-11 victory over KIPP San Jose Collegiate. Mountain View Academy's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Mountain View Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Audrey Mackey out in front who scored 15 points along with two steals. Mackey is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Iva Jayme, who scored nine points along with five steals.
DCP Alum Rock has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Mountain View Academy, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Thursday's game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Sanchez and Kayla Dhumad. Sanchez has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 steals, and 5.2 rebounds. For her part, Dhumad has averaged 15.4 points, 3.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks.
DCP Alum Rock came up short against Mountain View Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 40-28. Can DCP Alum Rock avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
