St. Catherine extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-15. They lost 28-1 to the Martin Luther Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 on Wednesday.
St. Catherine's saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stephen Straszewski, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Eli Juarez was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Martin Luther, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.
On Martin Luther's side, Jackson Boeshaar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Boeshaar has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Martin Luther's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Martin Luther got a massive performance out of Tino Pozos, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with seven RBI, three runs, and one triple. The Spartans are 3-1 when Pozos posts three or more RBI, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Juan Torres, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Catherine's will host St. Francis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mariners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.08 runs per game on average), something the Angels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Martin Luther, they will welcome St. Augustine Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
