Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Myles Burkett of
Franklin is the 2021 MaxPreps Wisconsin High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior quarterback led the Sabers to a 14-0 record and the Division 1 state title.
In the championship game at Camp Randall Stadium, Burkett hit on 16 of 23 pass attempts for 276 yards and three touchdowns as Franklin knocked off Sun Prairie 38-17.
For the season, Burkett completed 206 of 289 pass attempts for 3,427 yards and 36 TDs against just two interceptions. The Wisconsin Sports Network awarded him the Dave Krieg Award, which recognizes the state's top senior quarterback.
Burkett committed to Wisconsin in January over offers from five other FBS programs.
Current Wisconsin freshman defensive back Hunter Wohler of
Muskego was the 2020 MaxPreps Wisconsin Player of the Year after recording 78 tackles and two interceptions in leading the Warriors to a 9-0 record in a season abbreviated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
