The Chaffey Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Montclair Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 11 losses in a row, Chaffey turned things around against Don Lugo on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Conquistadors 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 26, 2025.
Danny Ramirez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emilio Alcala, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Chaffey's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-11 when he doesn't). David Garcia also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Montclair and Diamond Ranch, and Montclair kept the tradition alive. The Cavaliers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that victory, the Cavaliers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
The result came thanks to Chris Casey's shutout, as he gave up just two hits.
At the plate, Andrew Calderon was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Villalobos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Montclair kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Chaffey's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 2-12. As for Montclair, their record now sits at 11-6-1.
Chaffey might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Montclair when the teams last played back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
