It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Aquinas Academy Crusaders ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against Mohawk Area by a score of 77-67. Given Aquinas Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Mohawk Area is ranked 29th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aquinas Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Violet Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Aquinas Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Emily Fisher, who scored 19 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals.
The win was the third in a row for Aquinas Academy, bringing their record for this year to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Mohawk Area, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Aquinas Academy will head out on the road to face off against Seton LaSalle at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mohawk Area, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Beaver at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th.
