The Highland Hornets struggled with assists on Friday (the Organ Mountain Knights had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Highland fell 59-49 to Organ Mountain. Highland lost against Organ Mountain in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 69-53 score last time.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Cordova, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Alison Ryan, who scored eight points.
It was another big night for Caitlin Turnbow, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds for Organ Mountain. Turnbow hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Yvanna Villarreal, who scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals.
Highland has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Organ Mountain, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Albuquerque Academy at 3:00 p.m. on December 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Albuquerque Academy is ranked 49th, while Highland is ranked 62nd). Organ Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Farmington at 6:30 p.m. on December 16th. Farmington will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
