Basketball Recap: Maryanne Barrett and Victoria Zamora Secure Win for Central

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grossmont, Central was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They took down the Calexico Bulldogs 52-35. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 47-46 loss the last time these two teams met.

Central was led to victory by Victoria Zamora and Maryanne Barrett. Zamora posted 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Barrett earned nine points in addition to six assists and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Barrett a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Alexa Flores, who put up ten points and eight boards.

Central's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Calexico, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-13.

Central will square off against Palo Verde Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central is facing Palo Verde Valley at the right time seeing as Palo Verde Valley is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Calexico, they will venture away from home to challenge Imperial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Imperial will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Calexico surely won't give up without a fight.
