The Selma Bears will challenge the Washington Union Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Selma sitting on four straight victories and Washington Union on seven.
Selma's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Legacy Christian Academy 11-0. With that win, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Kayden Berry was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braden Francis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Selma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, Washington Union beat Reedley 4-0 on Friday.
Trey Morris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Davin Finderup, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Cole Roth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Selma's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Washington Union, their record now sits at 20-5.
Selma suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Washington Union when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
